1. Three-side seal bag
A three-side-seal pouch has two side seams and one top seam, with the bottom edge formed by a horizontally folded film. Such pouches may feature a gusset or be without one; when gusseted, they can stand upright on a shelf. A variation of the three-side-seal pouch involves replacing the traditionally folded bottom edge with an adhesive seal, effectively transforming it into a four-side-seal pouch.
2. Back-seal bag
The back-seal pouch, also known as a pillow‑shaped bag, features seams along the back, top, and bottom, giving it a pillow‑like appearance. Many small‑portion food packages are commonly sealed in this style. In the pillow‑shaped bag, the rear seam forms a fin‑like seal; in this configuration, the inner layers of the film are fused together, with the seam protruding from the back of the sealed package.
3. Folded-edge back-seal bag
The folded-edge bag for food packaging, also known as a folded-side bag or an accordion bag, is a variation of the back-sealed bag. It features both sides folded inward to form an M-shaped profile. If the M‑shape is asymmetrical, it is referred to as a trapezoidal folded-edge bag.
4. Four-side seal bag
Four-side-seal pouches for food packaging are typically formed by sealing the top, two sides, and bottom edges using two (roll) materials. Compared with previously mentioned food packaging bags, they may employ two different plastic resin materials—provided these materials can bond to one another—to produce a front-sealed four-side-seal pouch. Such pouches can be manufactured in various shapes, including heart‑shaped or oval.
